A $100 million development project will bring the principles of "new urbanism" to the Rt. 43 corridor in White Marsh and Middle River.
Baltimore County and St. John Properties officials on Wednesday unveiled the plans for Greenleigh at Crossroads, a mixed-use project that will include office, retail and residential space in what is being called the county's "first major town center designed around the principles of 'new urbanism,'" according to a press release from the county.
"The county approached St. John Properties and challenged them to make the next phase of development at Baltimore Crossroads transformational, making certain that our land and infrastructure resources were being used to create 21st century opportunities," Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz said in the statement. "St. John Properties responded with a plan that creates a town center unlike anything else in Baltimore County."
The 200-acre project, which will include more than 600,000 square feet of office and retail space and 1,700 residential units, is the next phase of development in Baltimore Crossroads, a 1,100 acre mixed-use business community along Maryland Rt. 43 near I-95 in the White Marsh/Middle River area.
Greenleigh will include mid-rise office buildings; a mix of detached single-family houses, townhouses, multi-family housing buildings and condominiums, open space and park land, and a pedestrian-friendly streetscape design, according to the statement.
"We have thoughtfully designed this new section to serve as a dynamic employment generator and create a comprehensive live-work-play environment that satisfies many different needs," Edward St. John, chairman of St. John Properties, said in the statement.
Groundbreaking is expected to occur in the next 12 to 18 months.
